Manet

‘There’s so much more to say………………..’  A personal response by Maggie to the much hyped and somewhat disappointing exhibition ‘Manet- portraying life’ at the Royal Academy held at the beginning of 2013. Selected examples of Edouard Manet’s work will be considered for clues to the justification of his position as one of the great masters of Modern Art. The painter’s role in the contemporary cultural scene in Paris at the latter part of the C19, his portrayal of women, his relationship to the annual Salon, and the outrageous nature of his most famous works will all be discussed.
