Dartington Hall in the C20 - The Dartington Dream
‘Dartington Hall in the C20’ was originally commissioned by the C20 Society as part of their lecture series ‘Britain and the Bauhaus’ held in London in 2012. It covered the development of the Dartington Hall Estate in Devon during the 1930’s, to show instances of the influence of the Bauhaus and the ‘modern’ world.
Variations on the theme of Dartington Hall can be given as individual talks covering aspects of the history, art and architecture of the revitalisation of the semi-derelict estate, transforming it both culturally and economically. Maggie can comment in particular detail on the development of the world famous progressive school and High Cross House built for the headmaster, which is now considered one of the major modernist buildings in this country. |
